We didn’t know what lay ahead when we landed in Pape’ete late on December 10th. We had agreed to care for S/V Aldeba-ran for a few months while owners Kristian and Sabrina were back in the States, but beyond a general idea that we’d be doing boat maintenance and potentially running co-op sailing trips around Tahiti, the future wasn’t exactly clear. We certainly had no inkling that in just a few weeks we would be the owners of a 1968 trimaran and members of a sailing cooperative whose goal is to share the adventure of exploring the South Pacific while promoting environmental awareness and sustainability. Kristian called it “synchronicity.” And it’s true, things couldn’t have lined up more perfectly.
In our first edition of The Pacific Dispatch we’d like to share the story of how we found ourselves on this side of the world, how we became the new stewards of S/V Aldebaran, our experience of being quarantined at anchor in Tahiti during the Coro-navirus lockdown, how life is un-folding for us now, and what we expect in the months to come.
